Safety and Legal

Whilst risk is inherent in outdoor activities we aim to reduce those risks to acceptable levels.

We are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service to provide activities to under 18 year olds. This involves an annual inspection to ensure our facilities, equipment, policies and safety management systems are appropriate. We are also a Royal Yachting Association recognised teaching centre and approved by the British Canoe Union and these sport governing bodies also inspect us annually to ensure both the safety and quality of our tuition meet their criteria.

Staff leading activities are qualified to sport governing body coaching standards where these exist and, for activities without a governing body, a technical expert assesses leaders as competent.

Our facilities and activities are regularly assessed for the risks they present and any necessary changes are made to ensure risk is reduced to an acceptable level. If you require copies of our risk assessments please call us on 015394 47183.

We have public liability cover of £25,000,000

In order that we can plan and run sessions appropriate for your group it is important that you let us know the number and ages of all participants and whether any of the group has special physical, medical or educational needs.

Please also ensure that during your visit you have consent forms from parents or guardians including an emergency contact number for each participant. Whilst we do not have any minimum requirement for swimming ability it is useful for us to know if there are non-swimmers or participants likely to be nervous in water as we can plan activities accordingly and build water confidence activities into the sessions.

 Group Sizes

Depending on the activity there will be 4-12 participants per instructor. If participants in your group may require closer attention due to physical or behavioural needs please discuss this with us when booking.

Please be aware that if accompanying leaders wish to take part in activities they must be included in the numbers when booking.

Maximum numbers we can take on each activity are shown in the activity overview section but please be aware that we cannot (due to facility size and staffing) accommodate maximum numbers on all activities at once!

Responsibilities

Our staff will take responsibility for participants once they are changed and throughout the activity session. Responsibility will revert to the party leader during meal breaks (unless meal breaks are taken during the activity e.g. hill-walking) and at the end of activity for supervision of changing rooms.

We reserve the right to remove participants from an activity if their behaviour is such that it compromises the safety of themselves or others.

Accompanying leaders are welcome to take part in the activities if they are within our instructor ratios however your party should have someone available to take charge of group member(s) unable or unwilling to continue with activities.

Communication

From initial enquiry to postactivity feedback please feel free to contact us at any point for help with your booking. Whether you prefer to telephone, e-mail, write or call in we will be happy to talk to you to ensure we successfully meet your needs.
