Swimming Admission Policy (under 8's)
This policy is in place to help ensure the safety of young and weak swimmers and has been developed following advice from national governing bodies including The Institute of Sport and Recreation Management.
An adult (swimmer) must accompany all children under the age of 8 years and any non-swimmers in the pool. They must go in the water and maintain a constant watch over the children and maintain close contact with the children who are weak or non swimmers.
Public & Fun Time Sessions (incl. Family Sessions)
Under 4 years..............1 adult : 1 child with or without armbands
4 – 7 years...................1 adult : 2 children with or without armbands
Parent & Toddler sessions
Under 4 years.............1 adult : 2 children with armbands or swimmers
4 – 7 years...................1 adult : 3 children with armbands or swimmers
Please note:
- An adult must be a responsible person, at least 16 years of age
who can swim.
- Weak and non-swimmers must remain in areas of the pool
in which they can stand.
- Non-swimmers wearing armbands must remain in the shallow end.
- If a lifeguard has concerns about a swimmer's ability they will be asked to perform a simple test. Swimmers will be asked to jump into water 1.5m deep so the head is fully submerged, tread water for 1 minute and then swim 50m in under 2 minutes. If this can not be done competently the swimmer will be asked to leave the pool.
Health & Hygiene Considerations
- Please use the toilet and shower with soap and water before
swimming.
- Babies and young children must use special swim trunks – not
nappies.
- If you have recently suffered from diarrhoea please refrain from
swimming for 14 days.
- If you have any medical conditions that may be affected by
swimming eg epilepsy, diabetes etc please inform reception/lifeguards.
