TRY SPORTS DAY 2009
FREE activities for all ages & abilities!
FREE sports will be on offer throughout the day on Sunday 6th September at lakes leisure Kendal. The leisure centre on Burton Road is providing a wide range of activities free of charge on its very first Try Sports Day, it is hoped that the day will encourage the local community to come along and have a go at something new!
The idea behind the day is to showcase the different sports on offer at the centre and encourage people to come along and give them a try and hopefully find a new sport or activity to enjoy in the future. As well as general ‘open to all’ sessions there will be a mixture of family and children’s activities; the swimming pool and Fitzone gym will be open as normal throughout the day with the gym also offering free pre booked taster sessions.
All the sports are hosted and supervised by qualified staff and reputable local clubs who are on hand throughout the event to offer tips and advice about the different sports and how you can get involved. Dawn Garnett, Operations Manager at lakes leisure Kendal says:
“Try Sports Day 2009 is a great chance for us to welcome people of all ages to lakes leisure Kendal and let them have a taster of the many sports that they could be involved in. We have organised a great selection of free activities from 10am-4pm as well as demonstrations and sessions from some of our clubs. We hope people come and join us for what promises to be a fun filled, action packed day!”
There is a full programme of activities running during the day and a detailed schedule is available by contacting the centre or visiting their website at www.lakesleisure.org.uk. Activities which are running on a first come first serve basis include family funsports, children’s funsports (age 5-11), inclusive funsports, junior gymnastics (age 5-11), and club sessions from lifesaving, kickboxing, jujitsu, kung fu and volleyball – all of course are free of charge.
Studio cycling is on offer for ages 14+... try this hugely popular fitness class with a 30 minute taster session! Studio cycling must be booked in advance of the day but the sessions are free of charge.
Fitzone Gym is also offering taster sessions throughout the day, all you need to do is book a mini induction by contacting the centre in advance.
The event takes place whatever the weather from 10.00am – 4.00pm with most of the activities happening inside the centre. Throughout the day lakes leisure Kendal’s Time Out Café/bar will also be open serving a range of light refreshments.
