Intensive Swimming Lessons at lakes leisure Ulverston
INTENSIVE SWIMMING LESSONS
Intensive swimming lessons are run during school holidays. The courses are 4 -5 days long and the classes run for 40 minutes each day. The classes are open to children age 4 by the end of the Autumn term (31st December), the children must be 4.5 years before attending their first course. For safety reasons the children must also be able to stand in the shallow end (0.9m deep).
Level A
These lessons are for non swimmers. The aim of level A is to build confidence, awareness of safety and to try and learn to swim. Children will not wear arm bands during the class as this hinders teaching; they will be provided with floats to work with.
Assessments
Throughout the week. Children who begin to swim will be assessed for distances of 5m during the class.
Level B
These lessons are for children who are able to swim 5 – 10m. The aim of level B is to develop Frontcrawl and Backstroke techniques. A small amount of deep end work will also be introduced to improve confidence.
Assessments
Day 4 or 5 Distance assessment up to 25m
Level C
These lessons are for children who are able to swim 25 – 50m (1-2 lengths). The aim of level C is to further develop Frontcrawl and Backstoke technique introducing correct Frontcrawl breathing. Work is carried out on half lengths and includes some deep end work.
Assessments
Day 4 or 5 Distance assessment of 50 - 100m
Level D
These lessons are for children who are able to swim 50 - 200m (2 - 8 lengths). Level D work is carried out on full lengths. Frontcrawl and Backstroke techniques are developed further and Butterfly technique is introduced.
As most children of this standard are involved in weekly lessons and also attend complete swimmer courses (young lifeguard, diving, turns, personal survival etc) a Level D course is only run once per year. Children of this standard however are welcome to attend a level C course and the instructor will ensure the child is taught at the required level.
Assessments
Day 4 or 5 Distance assessment up to 200m
To obtain maximum benefit from these short courses it is sometimes necessary for teachers to reorganise classes to group children of similar standards more accurately. – although we understand this can cause some inconvenience we believe there are significant benefits for the development of the stronger and weaker swimmers. Please be reassured if a suggested change is not possible no child will be asked to leave the course.
